You are PARTNERS in the Harvest

Thanks so much for your prayers. Our team from Tallowood Baptist in Houston, Texas was willing to divide up and partner with two churches in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for the week.  TAllowoodSo where do we go from here now?  Well, both pastors have follow-up plans to nurture and engage these families.  Please pray for seeds that have been planted to grow and mature, and for these FAMILIES to come to know Christ. There was a clear decision to accept Christ by one mother — but also other people were introduced to Christ for the first time.  Prayers needed.  Puppets, English classes, evangelism opportunities, singing, eating together and basketball were just a little of what took place last week.  Then we ended our time with a fun trip to a Taiwanese Aboriginal village and Hakka community. Thank you again for partnering with us in the Harvest. Your PRAYERS are essential.  Here are some of the pics from the week to remind you to keep these families in your prayers. God promises that HIS WORD will not return void and we claim that promise.

Well not a burning bush, but a DIVINE ENCOUNTER

Last week, Robert had some discomfort with his ear, so he made an appointment to see the doctor.  The only time available was on the same night as our 9 pm small group, but we thought we could fit it in.  Taiwan clinics assign you a number and an approximate time, so when your number comes up, it’s your turn.  Robert’s number was 37 with an approximate time of 8 pm.  When we arrived at the clinic, most of the seats indoors were taken, so I sat down outside near the front door.  As Robert went to the desk to register, a young woman called his name.  That caught the attention of most of the patients in the clinic.  About nine years ago, the young lady that called his name, Khi Lay, worked at a local hair salon where we became friends.

Now, downloadI know that you remember the story of Moses and the burning bush. We would all agree that the burning bush certainly caught Moses’ attention.  Well, this friendly encounter did seem so natural for us to run into someone at the doctor’s office and definitely wasn’t as dramatic as the burning bush. However, it was about to blossom into a DIVINE ENCOUNTER that God had initiated.

Robert and Khi Lay came to find me in front of the clinic, and we had great opportunity to share some time together.  It’s unusual to hear a foreigner speaking Taiwanese in Taiwan, so a few people sitting around us immediately tuned into our conversation.  One lady especially seemed interested and had a smile on her face.  Khai-leKhi Lay was number 31, and it wasn’t long before the clinic called her number.  After she went inside, the Taiwanese lady standing nearby came up and began to speak to us in English. She was curious to know more about us.  AND believe it or not, she and her husband live in Virginia not that far from where we formerly resided.  She shared with us a little about her family. We had an opportunity to pray with them and exchanged our contact information.  They were number 32 and were then called into the clinic.

Interestingly enough, the doctor said that Robert didn’t have an ear infection, BUT God had other important business to take care of that night.  Please pray for Chheng Hoe, her husband and two grown daughters.  The two daughters are Christians.  The parents, originally from Beigang and Singang in central Taiwan, are not yet believers.  8059187390_a9c66e167f_zThis area is very traditional in Taoist worship in Taiwan and many of the temples on the island have connections with these main temples.

Pray for peace for Chheng Hoe, and for an open heart for her to find the Prince of Peace. Also pray for Khi Lay, her husband and two daughters.  We have many dear friends in Taiwan and they desire our friendship, but don’t necessarily desire to know our Lord.  God draws people to himself.  In Isaiah 55:11 God tell us that He sends his WORD out and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all He wants it to, and it will prosper everywhere He sends it.  We claim that promise.

Once Again, Unstoppable. . . some more GOOD NEWS!!!

Chinese New Year is a great time to spend time with old friends and catch up on the latest news.  This year has been so wonderful to hear the stories of God’s faithfulness and blessings that just keep coming . . .

More than 10 years ago, Hokkien Harvest workers had the opportunity to partner with local Taiwan workers to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to the Pescadore Islands. nansha-archipelago1The Pescadores, also known as the Penghu Islandsmap3are off the western coast of Taiwan in the Taiwan Strait consisting of 64 small islands and islets.  A Baptist seminary student, Tho Chhiu-mui, originally from one of these small islands, asked if we could partner with her to take the Gospel to her home village, Bird Island — a fishing village with no Christian believers. God blessed and we had the opportunity to see people in that village and also nearby fishing villages come to know Christ.  Now years later, God is STILL at work. Our friend, Chhiu-Mui, shared that friends and family continue to come to Christ.  Recently, a friend from her home village contacted her and asked her to return home to lead her to Christ.  These photos are pictures of the baptism. — and believe me with these cold rough waters, it was a baptism that would not be forgotten.  Pray for her husband as he leans closer and closer to making a decision.

1391404451434 ALSO, on Bird Island – Chhiu-Mui’s home village – there are now three locations where Gospel Centers have been established. One of those teams is composed of a family who accepted Christ in the early ministry on that island.  Other islands also currently have workers on them as well.  It’s exciting to hear about lives transformed and filled with real meaning.  These fishing villages are very tight-knit, so for someone to step forward and make the decision to follow Christ, it is a real commitment that can bring some social pressure and persecution.  There are many cultural barriers that are intertwined with local temple rituals that present a lot of challenges for new believers.God really is unstoppable. Believers across denominational lines have joined hands and hearts to share love with the people of these islands.  May God’s name be glorified through all that is happening. Hang on and stay tuned, because there’s more to come!
